Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Phlebotomist to join our team on a PRN (as-needed) basis. The PRN Phlebotomist will primarily work on days called and will play a crucial role in our community by ensuring the efficient and safe collection of blood samples for diagnostic and medical testing. Key Responsibilities:
- Phlebotomy: Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients, following established protocols and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Medical Assistant: Take vital signs, including heart rate, weight, & blood pressure; Collect and process lab specimens; Perform basic lab tests, such as urinalyses
- HIPAA: All employees and independent contractors must comply with our organization's HIPAA policies and procedures. All employees and independent contractors must maintain the confidentiality of PHI and only access, use, or disclose PHI as authorized and necessary to perform their job functions.
- Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, explaining the phlebotomy process and addressing any concerns or questions.
- Sample Labeling: Accurately label samples and ensure proper documentation of patient information, sample collection times, and any relevant information.
- Infection Control: Maintain a clean and sterile work environment, following all infection control and safety guidelines to prevent contamination and the spread of diseases.
- Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain equipment to ensure proper functionality and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Compliance: Adhere to all regulatory and quality control standards in the collection, handling, and transportation of samples.
- Reporting: Document all procedures and patient interactions, maintaining clear and organized records for future reference.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification from an accredited program.
- Previous experience is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Flexibility to work on short notice and adapt to varying work schedules.
Working Conditions:
- This is a PRN position with no guaranteed hours. The PRN position will be called in as needed, and availability for on-call shifts is required.
- Work may include weekends, evenings, and holidays, depending on facility needs.
- Exposure to infectious materials and the necessity to follow strict safety protocols.
